UPDATE (20 February 2022)
Last week, on a Wednesday evening, we got the first call for assistance from a migrant domestic worker who had been made homeless after testing positive for Covid-19 - in the 4 days since, that number has grown to over 60 workers who’ve needed urgent support so far.
Our team sprung into immediate action, but by Thursday it became clear that we needed help - and so we turned to YOU, our Hong Kong community. Since then, we've been overwhelmed by the incredible love and support that our domestic workers have received!
With your help we were able to provide them with:
- 350+ bags of food and water
- 60+ bags of medical supplies containing medication, first-aid kit, thermometer, oximeter, rapid antigen test kits, personal protective equipment.
- 60+ bags of cleaning supplies.
- 50+ bags of toiletries.
- 20+ bags of clothes and bedding.
- 25+ packages of portable Wi-Fi and data cards.
We could not be more grateful to the incredible community who has made this happen!
- 1200+ donors who have unbelievably helped us raise over HK$ 1.1 million in funds to support urgent assistance for our domestic workers.
- 50+ fearless volunteers who are helping us source, pack, and deliver essential supplies every day, three times a day, to temporary shelters across Hong Kong.
- Multiple donors who provided in-kind donations for use of domestic workers.
- Multiple supporters who are offering the use of their locations as temporary shelters.
Thanks to your generosity, HELP will be able to remain agile and efficiently meet the emerging needs over the next few months. Here is what we are prioritising.
- Shelter: Ensuring domestic workers in need have access to shelter, particularly those who test positive for Covid-19. We will also continue to work with the Hong Kong Government to ensure that workers can access quarantine facilities.
- Mental Health: Providing counselling services for domestic workers who have suffered from trauma during this time.
- Legal Support: Assisting workers on their pandemic-related legal and immigration issues.
- Financial Support: Alleviating the financial burden for domestic workers who are facing mounting medical bills, especially those who have lost access to medical insurance after termination.
- Long-term solutions: Supporting domestic workers stranded in Hong Kong while they seek to return to their home countries or find new employment.
Thank you once again for your kindness and generosity.
We will close our fundraising campaign at HKT 6:00 pm on Monday, 21 February 2022.

UPDATE (18 February 2022)
THANK YOU to all our supporters for your kind and generous assistance to Hong Kong's domestic workers during this time of crisis. As of February 18, we have been overwhelmed to raise over HKD500,000 to support domestic workers who have been made homeless and affected by Covid-19.
The needs do not stop here - we do expect that given the uncertain situation in Hong Kong, more domestic workers will find themselves in similar crises, and will need ongoing assistance not only for shelter but also support in accessing legal advice, physical and mental healthcare, and other basic necessities.
Funds raised beyond today will now go towards our ongoing support for migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong, including meeting legal, mental health and basic needs, as well as providing much-needed assistance along with our community partners. Thank you very much for supporting those who care for us and our loved ones.
Warmly,
The HELP Team

Urgent support needed! (17 February 2022)
Due to Hong Kong's fifth wave of Covid-19 over the last week, HELP for Domestic Workers and other Hong Kong charities have been witnessing a rise in domestic workers who are left homeless due to testing positive for Covid-19.
By law, migrant domestic workers must live with their employers. Unfortunately, with the current uncertainties, many of those who test positive are unable to undergo home-based quarantine and are not receiving accommodation at institutional quarantine facilities.
Overnight, these workers are being made homeless and are experiencing severe stress and anxiety. Many are stranded at hospitals, waiting outside without food or supplies. As a result of their employment contracts being terminated, they no longer have medical insurance, are not eligible for subsidised public healthcare and are accruing large medical bills for treatment.

As a result of their employment contracts being terminated, they no longer have medical insurance, are not eligible for subsidised public healthcare and are accruing large medical bills for treatment.
Earlier this week, five domestic workers spent the night in a driveway without food, water, warm clothing or easy access to washrooms.
HELP and other charities were able to provide emergency support for these workers within a few hours. But we are running low on resources and need your help.
We need immediate funding for:
-food and water
-relief items (blankets, pillows, sleeping bags etc.)
-rapid antigen test kits
-medical supplies
-sanitary products
-basic necessities
-deep cleaning shelter facilities
HKD 2000 can provide one domestic worker with emergency support for 14 days.
